Why does printing appear on the middle of the painting when I view it in the print production area?

The faint printing you see on the middle of the painting in the print production gallery is called a watermark.

Watermarks are a standard and widely accepted way for artists to protect their work when it is displayed online.

When artwork is shared on the internet, images can easily be copied, downloaded, or reused without permission. A watermark helps discourage unauthorized use while still allowing viewers to enjoy and evaluate the artwork.

Un-watermarked images are frequently copied and used without permission across websites, social media, and print products. Watermarks are a practical way to balance open viewing with responsible protection.

They allow artists to share their work publicly while preserving control over how it is reproduced.

Does the watermark appear on a purchased reproduction / print of the artwork?

No.
Watermarks are only applied to online preview images.

All purchased prints and reproductions are:

  • Watermark-free

  • Produced from high-resolution master files

  • Professionally printed to the highest quality standards

Why do some paintings in the printing selection gallery not have all the final product options available?

The ratio of some painting images do not fit some of the printing production templates. For example, in order for a painting images to work for puzzle production, the ratio of the painting image size needs to be between 4:3 and 16:9 (horizontal or vertical).

My production gallery automatically decides which printing and substrate options are to be made available to customers and will display only the ones that suit.

What is a substrate?

In fine art printing, a substrate is the material onto which an image is printed. It is the physical surface that supports the artwork and plays a major role in how the colours, texture, depth, and overall presence of a print appear.

Different substrates create different visual and tactile effects, even when the same image is used.

Common substrates used for fine art prints

My print production process offers a wide range of professional-grade substrates, including:

Fine Art Papers

High-quality archival papers designed for art reproduction.

  • Matte or lightly textured finishes

  • Excellent detail and colour accuracy

  • Ideal for framing behind glass

Canvas

Printed on artist-grade canvas and typically stretched over wooden frames.

  • Soft, painterly look

  • Reduced glare

  • Popular for wall-ready artwork

Metal (Aluminum)

Printed on coated aluminum panels.

  • Vibrant colors and high contrast

  • Sleek, contemporary appearance

  • Durable and moisture-resistant

Acrylic

Printed behind clear acrylic panels.

  • Exceptional depth and luminosity

  • High-end, gallery-style presentation

  • Glossy, glass-like finish

Wood

Printed directly onto natural wood panels.

  • Warm, organic character

  • Wood grain subtly shows through

  • Each piece is unique

Puzzle

  • Precisely produced by HD Sublimation Process & protected by a high-gloss varnish.
  • Unlike traditional printing — This artwork is produced with by sublimation print. Heat and pressure are utilized to transfer images directly into the surface of the puzzle substrate before cutting, bonding the image to the substrate at the molecular level.

Why substrate choice matters

The substrate affects:

  • Colour saturation and contrast

  • Surface texture

  • Light reflection and glare

  • Overall mood and style of the artwork

  • How the piece integrates into a space

Choosing the right substrate allows collectors to tailor a piece to their personal taste, décor, and viewing environment.

Are all substrates archival?

Yes.

The substrates offered are selected for durability and longevity, using professional printing processes designed to preserve color and image quality over time when properly cared for.

Follow VAli Art on social media and subscribe to my newsletter to hear about new paintings available for print, as well as special offers that will be sent out to subscribers only.
